Ric Thomas graduated from Duke University in 1978 with
cum laude honors. He received his law degree from the University
of South Carolina in 1981. He joined Alford, Johnson & Salane
in 1982 after clerking for State Circuit Court Judge James B. Stephen.
He has practiced with Barnes, Alford, Stork & Johnson, LLP since
its founding in 1983.
Mr. Thomas’ primary practice areas are insurance
defense, products liability, professional liability, and construction
defects litigation. He has extensive trial experience in both
state and federal court.
Mr. Thomas is a member of the Defense Research Institute,
American Bar Association, Richland County Bar Association, and South
Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association, where he has served as
a lecturer at its annual trial academy. Mr. Thomas has been a
speaker and seminar faculty member for various insurance companies
and continuing legal education organizations, addressing such topics
as trial and discovery techniques, and insurance coverage. He is also
a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).
Outside of his legal practice, Mr. Thomas is active
with Shandon United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday School
for over fifteen years and has volunteered for local, national and
international mission projects. Mr. Thomas also enjoys golf and
running.
