Kay Gaffney Crowe graduated from the University of California in 1972 and from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1975.  While in law school, she was elected to the Order of the Wig and Robe and received American Jurisprudence Awards in Torts, Close Corporations, and Estate Planning.  She is admitted to practice in South Carolina and before the United States District Court, District of South Carolina and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
After graduation from law school, Ms. Crowe worked for two years as a law clerk with the Social Security Administration.  Following her clerkship, she joined the South Carolina Attorney General’s office and worked for five years as an Assistant Attorney General. She joined Alford, Johnson & Salane in 1982, just prior to the merger that created Barnes, Alford, Stork & Johnson, LLP. 

Ms. Crowe has been a partner with the firm since its inception in 1983.  Her practice concerns defense litigation, with a concentration on hospital and medical malpractice, and workers’ compensation.  She is a certified circuit court mediator.  

Ms. Crowe has been an active member of the South Carolina Bar.  She was the first woman elected President of the South Carolina Defense Attorneys Association.   She currently serves on the South Carolina Commission on the Profession.  

Ms. Crowe’s reported cases include Greenville County v. Insurance Reserve Fund, 313 S.C. 546, 443 S.E.2d 552 (1994); Ellis v. Oliver, 307 S.C. 365, 415 S.E.2d 400 (1992); Estate of Covington v. AT&T, 304 S.C. 436, 405 S.E.2d 393 (1991); Ex Parte Estate of Evans, 299 S.C. 366, 383 S.E.2d 748 (1989); Ellis v. Oliver, 335 S.C. 106, 515 S.E.2d 268 (Ct. App. 1999).
